General Advice On
Dating: How Does It Apply...
to You?
The idea of a date is to have a good time, but also to

behind a fine enough impression that you can have another
date with that person, if this is what you choose.
Since not everyone finds the same things attractive or are
impressed by the same traits, general dating tips
and advice give you a good base to stand on, but
you
will have to make choices and adapt the tips to
your
circumstances and to those of the person you are going
on a date with.
How do you adapt general
advice on dating to fit your own circumstances? By learning
the specifics of your personal situation. So, the first piece
of advice we will give you for
dating, is:
- Pay
attention to your
date.
We usually tend to focus more on ourselves at
the beginning of dating, whether it is
due to being nervous or worried about being liked. However, if
we practice focusing on
our date a bit more, a couple of positive things will
happen:
1)
You will learn faster how compatible you are with your
date,
allowing
y
ou
to tweak some of your behavior to fit the situation;
and,
2) You will end
up giving a better impression than if you're overly
focused
on yourself.
This doesn't mean you have to
disregard what you want. Instead, it means that you
should be learning about what he or she likes and what his or
her reactions are to
different things.
Unless you're going on a date
without anything else in mind other than having a good
time, dating is a rehearsal
of a possible relationship. You're trying each other out,
assessing how you feel and how your date feels. Some of the
things you should
focus on:
- Is there
chemistry?
- Is there physical
attraction?
- Is there attraction
beyond the physical?
- How well do you 'read'
each other?
- Do you enjoy having a
conversation with your date?
- Do you both have a
similar sense of
humor?
- How about similar
tastes?
- What can be
shared?
- What are some the
differences between you?
- Are these differences
going to add spice to the relationship, or
potentially
become
irreconcilable?
Another aspect of focusing on
your date is how you treat him or her (and how he or
she treats you back!)
If you are a man, be a
gentleman. If you're a woman, show kindness and respect
towards
him. Showing kindness is a sign
of confidence.
But don't take it to an
extreme, or it could backfire. If you're a man, don't be
so gentlemanly that you come off solicitous or
too eager. A lot of women are turned off by this. The same
if you're a woman. Be kind but without becoming too clingy, or
losing respect for yourself.
We hope that our dating advice
has in some way enhanced your understanding of the
dating process. Our last tip is that
you keep all
of our advice in mind, but don't
obsess on it. When all is said and done, you also need to be
having fun!
